Everyone has headaches. It’s an ordinary part of life. But for some people, they can be frequent and debilitating. Migraine is the world’s most common neurological condition. It affects 12-15% of the population which is about half a million people in the Republic of Ireland.

You might be surprised to learn that migraine is the 3rd most prevalent illness in the world.

Migraine & Headache Awareness Month

Did you know that June is National Migraine and Headache Awareness Month (NAHM)? The goal is to build awareness, educate the public and reduce the profound stigma associated with Migraine, Cluster Headaches and other Headache Disorders. This year’s theme is to help make migraines visible!

The reason I am writing this blog is to help spread awareness about migraines as it’s hard to ‘get’ migraines unless you suffer from them. As many of you know and as mentioned in my previous blog, a very close friend was diagnosed with New Daily Persistent Headache (NDPH) with Migraine Subtype and Myofascial Pain Syndrome a few years ago.  I also suffer from Migraines with Aura and Primary Stabbing Headaches (Ice Pick Headaches).

My First 5K Run For Chronic Pain Ireland

On December 12, I completed my first 5K run and chose Chronic Pain Ireland as my charity. I managed to raise a grand total of €675.00 and I am overwhelmed by the support and kindness I received from everyone. This is something I have wanted to complete for a very long time and I am delighted to get it accomplished this year. Unfortunately, there is no instruction manual for living a life with chronic illness and for facing the limitations and challenges caused by it. This is why I chose to raise funds for Chronic Pain Ireland – to help spread awareness and provide support to those living with the condition.
